Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11b

Turbo Wide Area IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN network operating at speed of 11Mbps.

Our company has implemented successfully numerous wide area high-speed wireless LAN systems for the container ports and airports in Hong Kong and China. The system is an open standard, multi-radio site cellular structured wireless data system covering an open area of approximately 3 to 4 sq. km. The first system was one of the world first and the largest scale single integrated wireless LAN systems installed in Hong Kong container terminal. Because the container port operates non-stop 24 hours a day and 7 days a week and the system is an integral part of the port operation, it must be highly reliable and is considered mission critical by the Company.

The system is connected to over hundreds of mobile equipment or hand-held terminals in the container yard to the host computer system via wireless IP links. The link is a high speed, large bandwidth and error protected link that is transparent to both the host system and the mobile terminals or computer. The system equipment provides roaming as mobile terminals move amongst the many base sites within container yard. The system equipment operates in the licence free 2.4GHz ISM band. The system employed spread spectrum technology on either the Frequency Hopping (FH) or the Direct Sequence (DS) spread spectrum protocol with data rate from 1.6M to 11Mbps. The latest system installed is IEEE 802.11b standard and Wi-Fi compliant.

Because the system is mostly outdoors, all system components are weatherized and heavy-duty type. Unlike most mobile wireless LAN equipment which are used in an office environment and on laptop PCs, the mobile LAN equipment in this application is in a hostile industrial mobile environment. As such, all the system components are designed and built to survive in such an extreme environmental condition.
