Port of Shanghai - Wai Gao Qiao Port A direct sequence spread spectrum technology (SST) radio data system has been designed and implemented by WesTel for the Container Port of Shanghai for the dispatch of job orders and fleet management of the RTGCs (Rubber Tired Gantry Crane) which are used to move the containers within the container yard. This 2.4 GHz outdoor wireless LAN system provides a high speed data transmission at 1.5Mbps from the operation center to cab operators in the RTGC. In the driver cab of each of the RTGC, a rugged data terminal was installed with a 2,4GHz wireless LAN card for the data communication with the computer network in the office. The wireless LAN network also provides data communications to the ground operators throughout the entire container operating yard. This challenging design was to provide a ubiquitous RF coverage to the entire yard with minimum number of radio equipment. The yard is measured at about 900m by 1500m and the environment is changing constantly. There are a total of 6 radio sites with 10 SST radios for the system. Each of the radio is equipped with diversity antennas in order to enhance the radio coverage from each of the radio site. All weather cabinets were specially designed to install in the light mask within the yard.
