Logistics, Tracker ID & Access Control

Hong Kong was ranked to be the world most busiest container terminal in 2001 with an annual throughput of 17.8 million TEU. Million tons of cargos are being transported on ground between the factories in China, GuangZhou Province and the container terminals in Hong Kong. Hong Kong has the world most advanced container port facility. Operators include: Hong Kong International Terminal Limited (HIT), Modern Terminals Limited (MTL), SeaLand Terminal Limited, COSCO-HIT Terminals Limited etc.. In order to stay competitive in the region, it is necessary to simplify the operation of the container trucks going in and out of the container ports from the factories in China. As such, there has a need for implementing an automatic, reliable trucks and containers tracking system which would bring obvious economic benefit to the region.

The containers will be tracked by using a low cost and no power device such as RFID or tags which is utilising the emitting electromagnetic energy from the transmitter to power the chipset inside the tags. These RFID or tags are rugged, all-weather and weatherproof. As for the tracking of the container trucks, an advanced GPS based tracker unit will be installed in the trucks and powered by the vehicle’s battery. A low cost electronics seal will be used to lock the container doors and the interlocking mechanism between the truck and the container. This will ensure that the goods inside the container and the container itself are securely locked together with the container trucks.

Contact-less smart card (called Trackor ID card--TID) technology is used for recording the trucks upon entering or leaving the Container terminal. The TID system is used to automatically track, verify and authorize the container trucks to pick up and deliver containers to and from the container ports.

By utilizing the latest technology in tracking, wireless, and electronics, terminals operators and container trucking companies can enjoy an integrated end to end quality service and avoid an otherwise onerous capital/infrastructure outlay of developing their own fragmented tracking and wireless systems.
